June 30 and July 1, 2013 - Decathlon and Exploring Taichung

June 30, 2013:

Today we went to Decathlon in Taichung.  It is sort of like REI, but bigger.  There was an cycling event that weekend, so we decided to join it.  My favorite activity was a mountain biking track which went down to the parking structure and back up higher than where we started and down some stairs, and then around the field on grass.  My dad said it was sort of like cyclocross racing.  Here in Taiwan the laws don't require helmets while riding bicycles and motorized scooters.  We're going to get helmets later so we can rent bikes and ride them in the park.

July 1, 2013:

Today we went to a day market in Taichung for lunch.  We had takoyaki, fried chicken, and a boba drink with milk and pudding.  Later on we visited a famous pineapple cake and ice cream shop that looked like a bookstore.  It used to be an optometry office but later on became a dessert shop.  We didn't get any ice cream because the line was too long.

Bookstore?  No!  Dessert store!

18 different kinds of chocolate ice cream

Does this remind you of the Harry Potter scene where he gets his wand?
